Emmy Awards attendees today found their arrival at the Peacock Theatre held up by protesters in downtown LA. Similar to the Oscars earlier this year and Joe Biden and Barack Obama’s June 15 double bill fundraiser, pro-Gaza protestors took to the streets before TV’s big night.
Waving flags and shouting chants, approximately 35 protestors were gathered at S Figueroa and W 18th Street down the road from the LA Live complex where Sunday’s 76th Primetime Emmys are.
A number of the protestors were on the street itself, blocking traffic. “No justifying the murder of children,” read a sign one protestor was holding, referring to Israel’s military campaign against Hamas in Gaza since the brutal October 7 attack on the Jewish state that saw thousands killed, raped, maimed and hundreds taken hostage.
While several blocks from the Peacock Theatre, the intersection is important because it is where a lot of Emmy participants vehicle’s exit both the Harbor Freeway heading north and the Santa Monica Freeway.Reminiscent of the situation surrounding the Academy Awards on March 10, numerous sources tell us they were hindered getting to the Emmys, which formally begins at 5 pm PT.
