Emergency services descended on a busy Tameside street following a gas leak. Stockport Road, in Ashton-under-Lyne, was closed this afternoon (September 13) while fire crews and Cadent gas engineers checked the scene.
The Manchester Evening News understands the gas leak came from a kebab shop. Part of Stockport Road was taped off earlier this afternoon, with police also in attendance, before emergency services lifted the cordon.

We arrived on-site quickly and have everything under control. "We are checking adjoining properties as routine and liaising with police and the fire service with regards to reopening the road.
