The Department for Work and Pensions has ordered the first Cold Weather Payments of 2024, with around 10,000 people set to receive £25 towards their heating bills.
Forecasts of sub-zero temperatures in Cumbria, Northumberland and around the Scottish Borders have resulted in the payments being triggered in a total of 19 postcode areas.
The payments will be made for the seven-day period which started yesterday, Friday. Large parts of the UK are forecast to be gripped by freezing weather next week and it is likely that other areas will also receive Cold Weather Payments in the coming days.
