A Dumfriesshire teacher has been recognised for her efforts to help protect the environment. Leah Belford has won a prize at the first annual Eco-Schools Awards organised by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
The Wallace Hall Academy teacher won the eco co-ordinator of the year 2023 award for her leadership of the eco-groups in primary, junior academy and senior academy at the school.
The biology teacher has led on Green Flag applications, a school garden and orchard, whole school recycling project, litter picking, Dandelion Growing Project, pupil trips to COP26, making apple juice with local company, clothes swaps, and tree planting with Galloway Glens.
Leah is also a member of the Learning for Sustainability Partnership Group networking with various local environmental and educational organisations in the region and trained to become a Dumfries and Galloway Champion.
