Five Annan men set off on an adventure to raise funds for motor neurone disease research on Friday morning. The team of friends - Gerry Baxter, Keith MacMillan, James Murray, Les Snowdon and Colin Taylor - are travelling from Edinburgh to Rome, supporting a relay of cyclists.

The bikers include former Annan resident James Snowdon and they are joining a charity caravan of around 20 teams raising funds in the name of the late Scotland rugby international Doddie Weir - who battled with MND before his death.

The All Roads Lead to Rome challenge involves cycling for eight days through Scotland, England, France and Italy. The cyclists will cover approximately 2,700km, with 27,000m of climbing.

They will be supported by the team of Annan pals, who will drive a support car, to ensure the riders’ safety, and a motorhome, where the cyclists will eat, rest and sleep.
