Driver accused of killing woman, 35, in horror M62 crash is named

A driver charged with the death of a woman in a horror crash on the M62 has been named. Gary Toomey, 36, is due to appear before magistrates accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Court documents allege Toomey, of Hollin Hey Road, Bolton, 'caused the death of Victoria Bell by driving a mechanically propelled vehicle, namely an Audi A3, dangerously on a road namely the M62 Eastbound between junctions 7 and 8', the Liverpool Echo reports.

It is also the first time Ms Bell has been named publicly. The 35-year-old died after the Audi hit the central reservation on the motorway at around 11.35pm on Friday, September 24 2021. The motorway was closed between junction 7 for Rainhill Stoops and junction 8 for Warrington after the crash. Tributes were left for the victim in the days after the incident.
