This weekend officially marks the end of British Summer Time as the clocks go back and we enter Greenwich Mean Time. When the clocks go back in autumn we gain a glorious extra hour during the night and an earlier sunrise, but it does mean that our evenings are cut shorter.
Most smartphones, including Apple and Android, will update the time automatically. But you can check your settings to ensure that date and time options are selected to “set automatically”. If you want to check what the correct time is you can use this virtual clock to make sure you are on Greenwich Mean Time. The next clock change will be in spring next year.
On 30 March 2025 at 1am the clocks will go forward by one hour to enter British Summer Time yet again. The clock change, also known as Daylight Saving Time, was introduced by the government in 1916 to make the most of our daylight hours.
