Disappointment over Lanarkshire Hogmanay bonfire cancellation as Omicron cases escalate

The Biggar Bonfire which was set to take place on New Year's Eve has been cancelled. It comes as concern over the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 grows throughout Lanarkshire, with mass events now limited to 500 in attendance.

The First Minister's announcement on December 21 meant the annual Hogmanay bonfire in Biggar was the latest Lanarkshire event to be scrapped, as organisers say "there was no way it could be limited to 500 people".
