Diarmuid O'Carroll discusses golf with the gaffer as close duo aim to keep St Mirren soaring

Diarmuid O’Carroll knew he was on par with his gaffer when the pair teed it up on the golf course this week. On a welcome day off after tough training sessions on both Saturday and Sunday, St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson invited his right hand man to play a game at the Carrick on the shores of Loch Lomond on Monday morning.

The pair work closely together every day at Ralston and the SMiSA as they hunt for new ways to improve the Saints, who are currently soaring high in third in the Premiership table after a smooth start to the season.

And even when they were focusing on their next shot on Monday as their battle on the greens went right down to the wire, O’Carroll and Robinson were still discussing ways in which they can keep their Buddies right on course for a wonderful finish to the current campaign.O’Carroll told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “I beat him at the Carrick in Loch Lomond by a point on Monday.“It was nice to get out, he had a gift for it and brought me along so fair play to him.“I used to let him win when I was with the under-18s or the reserves, but now I’m assistant I can do what I want and keep him where he should be!“I managed to get the same handicap as him, that was the biggest battle.“That was probably good management from him as well, keeping his staff happy.“When things are going well or going badly, it’s good to get out of the work environment and talk for three or four hours calmly about what we can do better and drive standards.“We’re always looking for those one per cent gains.
