Georgia Taylor has been a star of Coronation Street since 1997 playing troubled Toyah Battersby. But it’s a little known fact that Georgia Taylor is not her real name – she was actually born as Claire Marie Jackson.

Georgia is her stage name which she happened to pick just before her cobbles debut 26 years ago. Georgia took her last name ‘Taylor’ from her grandfather and explained she changed her first name because there were a lot of Claires in the business already.Talking to the Mirror, Georgia explained: "It was a few weeks into the job before I was able to change my name so to everyone there at the time I was Claire Jackson, although I was Georgia Taylor in the credits. Then when I left in 2003 I went out into the world as a jobbing actress, and everyone called me Georgia. "That was the case for years and years, and some of my very best friends call me Georgia.” Georgia joined the Northern soap in the late 90s with her fellow Battersby family including her on-screen dad Les Battersby (Bruce Jones) who joined in 1997 and left 10 years later.

Jane Danson continues to play her step-sister Leanne Battersby, the character is currently embroiled in a cult storyline. And Toyah has been having an affair with Leanne’s husband Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

Georgia has had time off from the show, she took a break from 2003 to 2016 to pursue new opportunities. In that time, she appeared in Life on Mars, Law & Order and Midsomer Murders.
