Chris Sutton warns that simply making signings won't necessarily fill the Matt O'Riley void at Celtic. The midfielder completed his record breaking move to Brighton earlier this week, and the Premiership champions will smash their own transfer record to bring in Arne Engels from Augsburg for £11million.
Paulo Bernardo was signed on a permanent basis earlier in the summer after a successful loan stint from Benfica last term, and the hope is that a combination of the two can make up for the loss of O'Riley. But Sutton isn't taking that for granted.
The Dane's output last season means that the new boys are going to have to hit the ground running in order to fill the huge void left in that dominant midfield trio alongside Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate.
Asked if he was happy with Celtic's window, Sutton told Sky Sports: "Yes, relatively if they get Engels over the line. There's talk about Auston Trusty, the Sheffield Utd centre back, they've signed a young talented left back from Barcelona, Alex Valle."It's replacing Matt O'Riley.
