Derek Thompson has bagged himself a new role in BBC drama series Blue Lights, following his exit from Casualty after 37 years on the hit show. The actor has landed his first role since leaving Casualty and is due to star in the second series of Blue Lights.

Derek, 75, starred in Casualty as Charlie Fairhead for nearly four decades but announced last year he had decided to leave the show.

His exit scenes are due to air at some point in March. However, Derek won't be away from TV screens for long as he will be starring in the second series of BBC's Blue Lights as Robin Graham.
