A person has died after being hit by a train in Wigan. Emergency crews were called to 'reports of a casualty on the tracks' near Lowton at around 5.50pm yesterday (Thursday).
Tragically, a person was pronounced dead on the scene. No further details on their gender or age have been released at this stage.

In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line in Lowton at around 5.50pm yesterday (18 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. "Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
