Imane Khelif has won gold at the Olympics! The 25-year-old Algerian boxer just won her gold medal match against China’s Lin Yu-Ting in the Boxing Women’s 66kg Final on Friday (August 9) at Roland Garros in Paris, France. Imane had an incredible victory moment after weeks of controversy surrounding her gender.

She was unfairly scrutinized by major world leaders and celebrities, who questioned her gender identity and claimed she was a man.

The controversy began after Imane‘s first-round match at the Paris Olympics, when Italy’s Angela Carini dropped out of their match after less than a minute in the ring.

She claimed she couldn’t finish the match because of the “maturity” of her opponent. Angela later issued an apology to Imane and said that she would “embrace her” if they had the opportunity to meet again.
