Call The Midwife viewers will be left emotional on Sunday when the final episode sees nurse Trixie revealing she's leaving London and heading for the States.

However, despite her declaration that she's jetting out to New York in a bid to patch up her rocky marriage to Sir Matthew Aylward - actress Helen George is not leaving the BBC drama, reports the Mirror. The cliffhanger is likely to leave fans fearing that Helen - one of six stars who remain on the much-loved show from the original 2012 cast - has quit Nonnatus House permanently.Yet, insiders claim the actress will return to film series 14 - which will begin production in the spring.Although Olly Rix - who plays Sir Matthew - will have a different outcome, as he's exiting the show following a four-year stint.

The star is not expected to return to screens next year, but the "door has been left open” for him, meaning that he could yet return in a later series. One show insider said: “This series ends with the firm impression that Trixie is off to America to start a new life with her husband and young stepson.

But the good news is her trip will be fleeting, and Helen will be back to carry on next year.”One plot twist fans are considering is that the pair don't split up, but Matthew remains in America to work whilst Trixie returns to the job she adores.Olly’s departure comes amid rumours that he and Helen were secretly dating after both split with their long-term partners last year and were spotted spending time together. This weekend's series finale will end with a dramatic phone call between Trixie and Matthew - who recently relocated to New York in a desperate bid to relaunch his career after the property firm he inherited from his father collapsed.
