BBC Antiques Roadshow guest emotional at true value of late brother's prized posters
dailyrecord.co.ukAn Antiques Roadshow guest was left in tears after discovering the true worth of her late brother's cherished collection of rock n' roll posters.The woman brought 47 posters to the show, all collected by her brother between 1967 and 1969, featuring iconic rock musicians and bands such as Jimi Hendrix and The Grateful Dead.
Expert James Supp was on hand to evaluate the collection.Her brother, who passed away 28 years ago, used to send money for postage to concert promoter Bill Graham and the Fillmore West venue, receiving a poster in return.
These posters have been carefully stored in a box for the past three decades, preserving them in excellent condition.The expert revealed the posters were of significant value, highlighting a first edition Jimi Hendrix poster, adorned with a flying eyeball, as one of the most valuable pieces.
The artwork, created by Rick Griffin in the late 60s, was described as 'the most iconic 60s rock and roll posters'. James explained to the guest: "The poster number is 105 from 'Bill Graham Presents' and because of its placement under the word 'tickets', you can tell it's a first edition," He then estimated the poster could fetch between $5,000 (£3.9k) and $7,000 (£5.5k), thanks to its pristine condition, reports the Mirror.
