Balloch’s Oban Duncan said that braving gusty conditions helped her to learn more about racing her F4 powerboat on the limit. The 17-year-old saw a planned weekend of racing at Stewartby in the UK Masters interrupted by blustery weather, but still managed to finish second overall in the club’s showpiece event. However Oban admitted it was a weekend of pushing the limits. She told the Lennox: “We really went for a bit of testing.“It’s Stewartby’s big race event of the year.

But as soon as we got down it was really windy.“On Saturday they told us that only people who needed to test their boats could go out, but really for a shakedown not quickly.“I went out to test my gearbox, because we’d had a few issues with that after the last race.

And it was fine.“It was windy, but I wasn’t pushing too hard so it was fine.“It made me appreciate how much the wind can affect the way that you drive.

It makes such a big difference.“Over the weekend we got faster and faster as I got more used to it, and learnt the limits of the boat and limits of myself.“It was a good learning curve.
