Edinburgh hotel fire started in room as residents evacuated from building

A fire that broke out at a Haymarket hotel in Edinburgh began in a room, it has been revealed. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were called to the incident at the Haymarket Hub Hotel on Clifton Terrace at 5.07pm on Saturday January 7 and remained there until after midnight.Seven appliances and two height appliances - some of which were relief crews for the main dispatch - were in attendance at the incident, reports Edinburgh Live.

No casualties have been reported by the SFRS. Both police and fire crews were seen outside as a large section of the road was blocked off.Video taken from the scene showed an extensive emergency service presence with police positioned at both ends of the street closing the area to traffic.

Travel was impacted from the city centre to the West of the capital as Edinburgh Trams announced on the night that their services would be disrupted due to the location of the fire.Residents from the accommodation were also seen standing on Clifton Terrace following the building being evacuated, as fire crews worked to extinguish the flames.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “There was a fire within one of the hotel’s rooms and we sent along seven appliances and two height appliances across the evening.
