Charlie Telfer admits it took a half-time rollicking from boss Rhys McCabe to get Airdrie going against Morton on Saturday – and even then they came up short.Goals from George Oakley and Michael Garrity had the hosts 2-0 up and cruising 10 minutes into the contest at Cappielow, and though defender Callum Fordyce pulled a goal back with a header from Telfer’s corner, it was too little, too late. The result puts Morton clear in fourth place, while back-to-back league defeats drop Airdrie down to seventh, eight points behind them, albeit with a game in hand.He said: “We conceded two goals within a couple of minutes of each other, and Morton’s form here is really good, so you get what you deserve, to be honest.“We conceded at a really bad time and it took us until maybe half-time.“The gaffer came in, there were words being said amongst us all – players and staff – and we were frustrated and disappointed.“We came out in the second half, huffed and puffed and had chances, but no clear-cut ones, to be honest.“We got a goal late on, but I think they were quite comfortable in the result.“It was one of those days and it’s a disappointing result, but when you give a foothold in the game to a team that are on that kind of form at the moment, then you’ve not really got much chance.Telfer says Airdrie were disappointed in defending at both Morton goals, and reckons they’re better than that.“We normally hit other teams hard and fast,” he said. “We knew what the game was going to be like, it was going to be stuffy at times and physical, and it was going to depend on who won the battles in certain areas of the park.“But we conceded at a really had time.“It’s frustrating.
