A motorcyclist suffered 'potentially life-changing injuries' in a crash with a car in Ashton-under-Lyne on Wednesday evening (July 19).

An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene and landed on top floor of the nearby IKEA car park as emergency services cordoned off Oldham Road following the collision at around 5.30pm.

The motorcyclist, a man, was reportedly 'thrown' from his bike, which was left crushed with debris strewn across the road before he was seen being treated at the roadside by paramedics. A woman, understood to be the driver of the car involved, was then taken to hospital with 'multiple injuries' from the scene, according to the fire service.

Pictures from the scene on Wednesday evening showed a large cordon in place along Oldham Road, with a number of police vehicles at the scene.
