Ibrox has always felt like home for Abdallah Sima. Now the on-loan Brighton ace is waiting by the phone eager to learn if the old place will end up becoming one to call his own.
Sima checked out of Glasgow on Monday and returned to his parent club on England’s south coast after a productive year-long Rangers loan which brought 16 goals and a Viaplay Cup winner’s medal.
The bulk of those strikes - in fact all but one - came before a hamstring duty picked up on Senegal duty at the African Cup of Nations derailed his progress and ruled him out for three months. But there was enough promise in the first half of his Ibrox spell to suggest he can be a handy addition should Philippe Clement and the Rangers board find the funds to bring him back next season.
The only stumbling block is the fact the 22-year-old has another 12 months on his contract at the Amex Stadium, with this summer likely to be the last chance for his Premier League employers to recoup the £8million they spent when signing Sima from Salvia Prague in 2021.That kind of lolly will be too much for Gers, who will have to barter Brighton down to a more manageable fee.
