Radio presenter Zoe Ball has announced that she will be returning to her breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 after six weeks away. The broadcaster, who is the BBC's highest paid female star on £950,000 a year, has been absent from her show since August 8, with Scott Mills filling in for her.

Zoe has now broken her silence on her Radio 2 return, writing on Instagram: "Back to breakfast tomorrow morning 6.30." She went on to thank Scott Mills and DJ Spoony for filling in for her while she's been away, saying: "@realscottmills 7 @djspoony thanks for putting in the mega shifts." In a statement, a Radio 2 spokesperson addressed Zoe's return, saying: "We are looking forward to welcoming Zoe back to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show tomorrow morning." It has been a tough year for Zoe, who announced in April that her mum Julia Peckham passed away following her battle with pancreatic cancer.

She wrote in an emotional message at the time: "Sleep tight dear Mama. thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally, to always show courage and empathy, and how, even in the darkest of days, laughter is the greatest of gifts.

we are bereft without you but will hold so tight to each other. your grace & your smile that lit up every room you were in, will light the stars to guide us." While Zoe paused her broadcast work in April after the loss of her mother and a round of emergency dental surgery, an insider told Mail Online last week that "nobody knows what has happened" that led Zoe to take a six-week break at the end of the summer. "Nobody knows what has happened but everyone loves Zoe," they said. "We hope everything is okay.
