Wishaw boss David Dunn has hailed the West of Scotland League’s decision to call last weekend’s games on Friday – because it let his players pick up extra shifts before Christmas.Dunn points out that players regularly make sacrifices to play games at that level, and this time around they were able to make some extra money which can be crucial at this time of year. That meant Wishaw’s Second Division clash at Greenock bit the dust, but Dunn reckons it would have been off anyway. He said: “With the weather all week and a wee bit of a thaw, we knew it was going to be flooded, so it would have been off either way.“It’s unfortunate, it’s another game off, but you can’t do anything about the weather.“The league calling it on Friday was a good idea.“I get leaving it to 9am or 10am in the morning and there’s a chance, but at this level folk are working and stuff like that.“I’ve got boys messaging me about the opportunity of taking a shift on Saturday which they don’t normally do, and at this time of year it’s probably the best thing.“The game has no chance of being on, I don’t see the point in waiting until the Saturday morning and I was absolutely delighted with that decision.“It means folk can move on – at this time of year everybody’s got things to do.”Dunn added: “People being able to take extra shifts is important.

I know we’ve got a few boys who probably give up their time, and folk don’t realise that at this time of year – and every other Saturday probably – they’re coming to play when they could go and work and get a lot more money.”Wishaw have a break before hosting Yoker on December 31, but Dunn says it’s one they must target three points from.He said: “It’s an important game.
