The future of HS2 rail to Manchester hangs in the balance, with the north set to lose out once again after being promised so much.

The Manchester Evening News contacted our eight sitting Conservative MPs inviting them to air their views and thoughts as reports suggest Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt are considering axing the high-speed rail route north of Birmingham over soaring costs.

Ahead of the Conservative Party conference in Manchester next week, we asked them to consider answering five questions, including whether they believe the Government should commit to building HS2 in full to Manchester as promised. So why is it not happening? We also asked them to say whether they agreed with senior Tories, including former chancellor George Osborne and ex-deputy prime minister Lord Heseltine, who have warned that scrapping the Manchester leg would be a 'gross act of vandalism' and 'abandon' the North and the Midlands - as well as inviting them to comment on the issue in terms of the PM's levelling-up agenda.
