Vernon Kay shares health update after missing BBC Radio 2 show and leaving fans worried

BBC Radio 2's Vernon Kay has given his fans a health update after he had to skip his mid-morning show on Tuesday, 24 September, sparking concern among his listeners.The 50 year old presenter was battling a sore throat the day before which left him struggling to speak, and doctors recommended he take some time off to recover.Thankfully, after just a day of rest, Vernon returned to the airwaves feeling much improved.Today Wednesday, 25 September, as he opened his show, he described his recent illness as "horrific" but reassured fans that he was on the mend after taking the necessary time to rest.

He quipped: "We're back. We're not 100%. But if I took another day off with a sore throat, the big fella, Norman my dad, would have killed me." Listeners had picked up on Vernon's unusually husky voice during Monday's broadcast.

Despite the discomfort, he soldiered on for the full two and a half hours, even welcoming Zoe Ball back after her break and launching the new Radio 2 Children in Need campaign, which will feature newcomer Paddy McGuinness.

When Vernon couldn't make it on Tuesday, Gaby Roslin stepped in. She updated the audience on Vernon's condition, saying: "Gaby in for Vernon Kay.
