"Ugly" To Let signs are being removed from Perth city centre in a bid to make it look more attractive for visitors to Perth Museum.A report put before councillors this month revealed Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) was working with letting agents to replace To Let signs in the city centre with QR codes.It was contained within an update on plans for the opening of Perth Museum on Easter weekend, 2024 which went before PKC's Environment, Infrastructure and Economic Development Committee on Wednesday, November 1.The report also revealed PKC was working with professional artists "to make Perth city centre look more appealing" by using different window dressings in empty shops advertising Perth Museum.The report by PKC's head of Culture and Community Services Fiona Robertson said: "Teams within Perth and Kinross Council have been working together and with professional artists to make Perth city centre look more appealing and to promote the new museum by undertaking different window dressings which advertise elements of Perth Museum and help prevent fly posting in empty shops.
We are working with letting agents to remove the ‘To Let’ signs on the high street and replace them with QR codes which will give potential retailers the relevant information."At Wednesday's meeting, Carse of Gowrie SNP councillor Ken Harvey asked how many To Let signs had been removed so far.Executive director of Communities Barbara Renton said: "To Let signs are part of permitted development but some agents have already been agreeing to replace them with window vinyls which you will have seen on vacant shops.
