A young girl tragically died just three days after being admitted to hospital with previously undiagnosed diabetes, an inquest has heard.

Niamh Summer Udale's, ten, condition was only spotted when her parents took her to a walk-in clinic on January 24, 2020, where nurses identified that the little girl's blood sugar levels were high.

Niamh was immediately admitted to Sunderland Royal Hospital where she was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a serious complication of diabetes that develops when the body can’t produce enough insulin, Chronicle Live reports.

However, despite the best efforts of medics at the hospital, the paediatric intensive care unit at the Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle where she was transferred, and finally the city's Freeman Hospital, Niamh sadly died on January 27, 2020.
