Thousands of pounds of goods have been nicked from shops in Braehead in a spate of thefts uncovered by security staff.The security team at the Kings Inch Road retail site launched an investigation after multiple shops reported issues with missing stock earlier this week.Police from the Renfrew community policing team were contacted by security following their internal investigation which involved checking CCTV and speaking with staff.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.It emerged a number of items totalling a four-figure sum had been stolen at different times from multiple shops between Tuesday and Thursday.Police say a suspect was identified through the probe by Braehead security staff, which assisted officers investigating the incident in their enquiry.Officers also confirmed the goods, which included a number of electrical items, were later recovered from a property and returned to the affected stores.A spokesman from Police Scotland said: “Officers we’re contacted by security staff at Braehead Shopping Centre following a number of suspected thefts at multiple stores in the shopping complex which took place between February 1 and February 3.“Police attended and continued enquiries which were carried out by security staff, and identified a suspect on CCTV.“We can confirm a man has been arrested and charged in connection with shoplifting offences and will appear at Paisley Sheriff Court in due course.“A report had been sent to the procurator fiscal.”Download the FREE Renfrewshire Live app now for all the latest news, features and sport: smarturl.it/RenfrewLiveSocial
