THE ROLLING STONES will this month announce a European tour to mark their 60th anniversary – including a gig at Liverpool. The legendary rockers — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood — will unveil their plans for the milestone gigs on March 14.

Sources say the first UK date of the tour — which begins in June — will be at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium, as the band return to the city for the first time in five decades.

The performance, with fans cheering from the stadium’s Kop end, will be the hitmakers’ first concert in Liverpool since they played the Empire Theatre in 1971.

A source said: “The last time the Stones were in Liverpool, they played to a small crowd of a few thousand people at the Empire. “But Anfield has a capacity of 53,000 people.
