But the real Bear was in Washington DC the other night.Celtic legend Roy Aitken is in town and was the star at the Washington Celtic Supporters Club night at Ireland’s Four Courts bar over in Arlington.
There were a couple of other guests in tow – with the Premiership trophy and Scottish Cup. Supporters liaison John Paul Taylor was doing a good man marking job on the silverware – and it was just as well as Celts have previous in the US with these cups.On their first trip to the States in the 1930s, Willie Maley brought the Scottish Cup.
It was in a big wooden box but at some point it got lost. The trophy turned up but the box went AWOL and legendary striker Jimmy McGrory ended up carting the trophy around in a carrier bag.
There were no such problems this time and a packed pub got to see the silverware. It was a sweet moment for a lot of fans who support the club from afar.
