Celtic told Atletico Madrid they wanted £25million for Matt O'Riley in January – and that demand sent the Spanish giants packing. That's according to a new report from Denmark which claims a loan offer with an £18m obligation to buy was never going to be enough for the Hoops to part with their key man.
O'Riley attracted plenty of interest in January with Girona and Inter both reportedly trying their luck but the most concrete approach is believed to have come from Atletico where Diego Simeone had his sights set on the Celtic star.
They stepped up their efforts to sign him with around a week remaining of the window, but the prospect of the move was shot down just as quickly as it appeared.
Just over 24 hours after news of of a concrete Atletico bid emerged, Celtic rejected it, and boss Brendan Rodgers revealed he 'won't be going anywhere.' And a new report from Tipsbladet offers a glimpse inside the specifics of the negotiations.
