Next time you're walking over the footbridge to Ancoats marina take a look at the Rochdale Canal below. If it's a clear, still day you'll probably be able to make out the words 'Cast no shadow' on the surface of the water.

The phrase, as any music fan will know, is lifted from the Oasis song of the same name. And in a clever design trick it's stencilled in reverse on the underside of the bridge, so that it reflects onto the canal. READ MORE: Can you recognise these Manchester landmarks from just a close-up?

Try our 'Spot the Wall' quiz The bridge was first suggested as part of a regeneration project near Murrays Mill. In 2008 architects were invited to put forward ideas for a competition run by developers Urban Splash.

Because of its unusual location, at a T junction of the canal and entrance to the marina, the bridge needed to connect three points, Redhill Street and opposite sides of the towpath.
