Usually standing in for somewhere else in the country, you will have most likely seen Hepstonstall on TV. Perched above Hebden Bridge, this beautiful village looks much the same as it did 200 years ago.

That's why it's a go-to for TV and film producers, most recently in BBC's The Gallows Pole where it stands in for Cragg Vale on the opposite side of the Calder Valley.

The real Cragg Vale while gorgeous, has a large main road running through it. Heptonstall doesn't; it has a cobbled main street with restricted vehicular access. Heptonstall does and it's packed with buildings dating back to the Middle Ages. Yorkshire Live reports that top director Shane Meadows and company chose Heptonstall for The Gallows Pole, a biopic loosely on the Cragg Vale Coiners.
