Teenage boy dies after police called to Loretto boarding school in Edinburgh

A teenage boy has died after emergency services were called to an incident at Scotland's oldest boarding school.Mercy crews were called to Loretto School in Musselburgh on Tuesday, May 2, just before 7pm, following concern for a 17-year-old pupil.The student was rushed to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh but tragically died a short time after.Loretto has said that the school community is "devastated" by the boy's death and are supporting his family as well as fellow pupils and staff.A spokesperson for Loretto School said: “Following a medical emergency last Tuesday evening at the school, paramedics were called to the school to treat a pupil.

Sadly, he passed away a short time later in hospital."The school community is devastated and we are giving his family all the support we can.

We have also been working with pupils and staff impacted by this tragic news and that is our focus for now.”A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.50pm on Tuesday, 2 May 2023, police were called to a school in the Linkfield Road area of Musselburgh following concern for a 17-year-old male.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died a short time later."At this time, there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
