Students stage Gaza protest during University of Manchester graduation ceremony

University of Manchester students used their own graduation ceremony to protest against the ongoing war in Gaza yesterday (July 10).

As they accepted their degrees, students held aloft a range of banners and flags Video footage shows graduates, all of whom were female, walking across the stage and taking out banners and flags from their gowns and holding them up to the camera before exiting the stage.

Others chose to wear keffiyehs over their robes, which is a traditional headdress in some parts of the Middle East and a now a familiar symbol for Pro-Palestine protestors. Protestors held up a range of slogans including 'No class of 2024 in Gaza' and another student protested against the university itself with a banner reading 'UoM funds genocide!
