Greater Manchester Police pursued a Mercedes that had been reported stolen through Middleton on Monday. Officers spotted the Mercedes in Middleton and pursued until the vehicle was abandoned.
It was then recovered in order to undergo forensic examination. GMP Traffic said on Twitter on Monday night: "This vehicle was stolen in a burglary a few days ago. "#XT21 sighted the vehicle in @GMPMiddleton and a pursuit took place before the vehicle was abandoned. "Vehicle has been recovered for a forensic exam #Locardsprinciple." Locard's principle maintains that the perpetrator of a crime will bring something to crime scene and leave with something from it - and that both can be used as forensic evidence.
The Merc was among among a number of vehicles that been reported stolen that were recovered yesterday by GMP officers. Officers also recovered a BMW in Wythenshawe and a Fiat in Farnorth, as well as stopping a Ford Fiesta using false plates who driver had no insurance.
GMP Bolton South said on Twitter: " #CReliefXM from #GMPTransportUnit in Farnworth have spotted, pursued and seized this Fiesta; on cloned plates with no insurance. "Driver will be notified & processed accordingly." For more stories from where you live, visit InYourArea.
