Anyone headed to Spain has been issued an urgent warning if they are travelling to the Canary Islands after 10 earthquakes struck the island in the past 24 hours.

The risk to locals and tourists is now being evaluated after three earthquakes with a magnitude of at least three each stuck the islands, reports The Mirror. At approximately 4am on Monday, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake hit in a part of the ocean west of the islands, with another striking the ocean between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Tenerife shortly after. On the same day, another four earthquakes were recorded in the islands, which are located above the African, Eurasian and American tectonic plates - those of which experience regular seismic activity.Experts have said that earthquakes between 2.5 and 5.4 are often felt by those living above the tremor's epicentre, but they tend to only cause minor damage to structures. This news comes after holidaymakers in Tenerife arrived at hotels to find ash floating in pools, after the island's worst wildfire in over 40 years blazed across the Canaries.Thousands of people in Tenerife were evacuated from the Canary Islands as the fires blazed on for days, as burnt ash, leaves and other debris fell from the sky.British teachers Holly and Dale travelled to Tenerife from St Albans for a long-awaited summer holiday, as they told Sky News it had been ruined by the wildfires.

Dale said: "Waking up this morning was probably the worst day. Seeing all the ash in the swimming pool, the staff boarding everything up, the beds being taken up, it's the end of the holiday really."Local police launched an investigation into the fires, as Government leaders confirmed that these blazes were "provoked".
