Viewers tuning into tonight's Soccer Aid match were quick to pick up on a problem with the pitch ahead of kick off. The annual charity football match, which sees two teams of celebrities and professional players go head to head, returns tonight, with kick off set for 7.30pm.
But as ITV coverage got underway this evening viewers were quick to notice that the pitch at Chelsea's ground Stamford Bridge looked a bit worse for wear with several large brown patches visible. READ MORE: Soccer Aid 2024 full teams and lineups and who is playing for England and the World XI Dermot O'Leary and Alex Scott headed on to the pitch to present the build up to the game, chatting to pundits including Vicky McClure and Jason Manford.
But the state of the ground proved to be a distraction for some viewers, with many taking to social media to comment. "State of the pitch at Stamford Bridge, surely they could have played somewhere better," one viewer commented. "Pitch so bad it looks like Beach Footy!!" another said.
A third pointed out that there's been some heavy rain recently, but that doesn't seem to have helped the ground. "It's done now't but piss down for weeks.
