Sir Jim Ratcliffe's first words as INEOS billionaire owner completes Manchester United investment

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has vowed to return Manchester United to the top of English, European and world football after officially becoming a minority shareholder at the club.

Ratcliffe's investment into United was officially confirmed on Sunday afternoon, following more than 13 months of negotiations.

The INEOS chief has is thought to have out around £1.25billion into the club in return for a 25 per cent stake. The Glazers will remain majority shareholders but Ratcliffe is expected to take control of footballing operations at the club, once approved by the Premier League in a period which is expected to be around six to eight weeks.

And the 71-year-old has today vowed to use his expertise to get United back on track. "Whilst the commercial success of the Club has ensured there have always been available funds to win trophies at the highest level, this potential has not been fully unlocked in recent times. "We will bring the global knowledge, expertise and talent from the wider INEOS Sport group to help drive further improvement at the Club, while also providing funds intended to enable future investment into Old Trafford.
