A senior Greater Manchester councillor has 'stepped back' from his cabinet position 'for personal reasons'. Labour politician Tamoor Tariq - the deputy leader of Bury council - has had the whip withdrawn 'pending further investigation', but remains a member.

Further details have not been released. Coun Tariq declined to comment. The Redvales ward representative, who became Bury's youngest ever councillor when he was first elected in 2010, was responsible for the health and wellbeing brief in the borough.
