Christopher McDowall stabbed Marc Young in the stomach and back after "a joke gone wrong" while they were together in a flat in Paisley.

The 31-year-old committed the offence, which took place during last year's first Covid-19 lockdown, after he'd been spared jail over a previous violent attack.

Months earlier he attacked a woman who'd been giving cigarettes to his mother, who suffers from lung disease COPD. And sentencing over the attack on Young was adjourned so McDowall can say his final goodbye to his mum, who is in hospital battling
