A Scots shop has been completely destroyed after a deep fat fryer went up in flames while the owner and her daughter were still inside.

Emergency crews rushed to the blaze on Monday morning at Archies Newsagents on Old Duntiblae Road in Kirkintilloch.Owner Lisa Giffin described the moment as terrifying and said her daughter Brooke had to be treated for smoke inhalation after the pair fled the property.Lisa, who 'built the shop up from nothing', has run the newsagents for 12 years and said the fire has completely devastated the local community, who now have no shop in the town. She told Glasgow Live: "It was mental, we were working in the shop and the fryer went up suddenly.

There was black smoke everywhere. There was nothing we could do so we just had to leave."I was going to go back in with a fire extinguisher but everyone was telling me not to because it was too dangerous.

I build that up from nothing, it was a shell when I got it 12 years ago."The shop meant too much to our family. I work in that shop seven days a week, every week, from open to close.
