Hundreds of offshore workers face being stranded on rigs this Christmas after an oil firm allegedly refused to reschedule flights cancelled due to bad weather.
Around 200 Scots in the North Sea, near Denmark, fear they will spend the festive period hundreds of miles from home. They have now threatened to protest, warning they will stay in their cabins and refuse to work unless replacement helicopters are organised.
Some are also worried violence could break out as colleagues struggle with their mental health. One said last week’s high-profile incident on an oil rig in Qatar – which left a worker dead and another injured – is also playing on their minds.
The whistleblower told the Daily Record yesterday that employees of French oil firm TotalEnergies are unhappy with the situation.
