A football coach is on trial after allegedly sexually abusing three boys, and raping one of them, over a 19-year period. Russell Conn managed football teams in Ayrshire for more than 20 years and worked as a carer in a boys’ home.

He denies assaulting boys between 1995 and 2014 in Ayrshire and elsewhere in Scotland. His alleged victims, now aged 42, 27 and 23, revealed the emotional and physical impact of the alleged abuse at the High Court in Paisley this week.

The 42-year-old dad of two, told Conn’s trial he was able to pinpoint the dates of the alleged repeated abuse as Conn took him to a Kilmarnock vs Aberdeen game in 1996.

He said he “withdrew” into his “shell” and “buried” what happened, adding: “I had made peace with myself and thought I’d take it to my grave with me. “But there’s barely been a day gone by where I’ve not thought about it.”He heard “rumours” that “various boys had been sought out by police” over Conn’s “historical sexual abuse” and went to police in 2020, claiming Conn abused him between 1995 and 1996.A 27-year-old dad of three, who was allegedly abused between 2008 and 2009, sobbed and shook as he gave evidence, saying he attempted suicide as a result of it.He added: “I’ve not been able to hold a job because I can’t trust older men.
