A Scots dad has "died of a broken heart" just eight weeks after the death of his beloved wife. Robert Japp, known as Bob, was devastated to lose his sidekick Matilda when she passed away at the end of June - and he never got over the loss.
After Matilda was diagnosed with emphysema COPD in 1989, Bob took on the role as her full time carer and the couple "never spent a day apart" in their whole 29 years together.
Matilda coped well with her illness but spent the last few years confined to their house in Edinburgh on 24 hour oxygen before she was rushed to hospital earlier this year with an infection.
The 65-year-old was later diagnosed with terminal delirium and she died peacefully in her sleep on June 29. While the whole family were devastated, none suffered more than Bob, 55, who could never come to terms with her passing.Speaking to the Record, Matilda's daughter and Bob's stepdaughter, Kelly Hunter, 46, said: "My mum fought so hard to live and stay with her family and lived much longer than anticipated before she was finally taken from us."In 1989 she had an operation to remove part of her lung.
