Ryanair’s boss Michael O’Leary has defended the budget airline’s strict fines policy and claimed it’s necessary to keep fares down.
It comes as the airline has come under fire in recent weeks when a series of passengers were forced to fork out large sums of cash due to small and unintentional errors.
Ruth and Peter Jaffe, aged 79 and 80 respectively, made headlines in the summer when they were charged £110 at London Stansted airport for not checking in online in time.
They had accidentally checked into their inbound journey rather than the outbound one. This meant they fell foul of Ryanair’s policy of fining any flyer who does not complete the process within two hours of their departure time, The Mirror reports. “It was a genuine mistake.
