The funeral and lying-in-state of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 cost the UK Government an estimated £161.7 million, according to figures published by the Treasury.

Queen Elizabeth, who was Britain's longest reigning monarch for a staggering 70 years, passed away on 8 September, 2022, breaking hearts across the nation, and across the globe.

There was a ten day mourning period when the late Queen passed away at Balmoral, the Scottish residence of the royal family, after which she lay-in-state at St Giles’ Cathedral, before her coffin was flown from Edinburgh to London on 13 September, with the Princess Royal accompanying her.

On 14 September, the Queen’s coffin was borne on a gun carriage from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall for her lying-in-state, taking place for five days, when more than 250,000 people queued up to pay their respects.
