Pet insurance claims for cats hit record high of £148m last year

pet insurance claims for cats increased by 10 per cent annually to an all-time high of £148 million in 2020. New figures from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) show that 1.06 million cat owners across the UK had pet insurance last year, which is also the highest figure it has recorded.

Insurers processed claims for all types of pet s worth £799 million in 2020, the equivalent of £2.2 million every day, mainly to cover the costs of veterinary treatment, the ABI said.

The annual pet claims total for 2020 was the second highest figure since the ABI started collecting the data back in 2007, and 80 per cent higher than the amount recorded 10 years ago.
