A star Olympian swimmer has been asked to leave the athletes' village in Paris due to allegations of "inappropriate behaviour".

20-year-old Luana Alonso, who hails from Paraguay, was advised to vacate the village, which serves as a temporary home for multitudes of competitors from all nations participating in the sport events.

This development followed closely on the heels of her public declaration to retire from swimming after failing to advance to the semi-finals in the 100m butterfly event.

The athletes' village is a space designated for competitors to unwind and mingle with colleagues and rivals off the competitive field.
