Nine West Lothian sport pavilions in 'poor condition' facing sale or demolition

West Lothian is set to lose nine sports pavilions which have fallen out of use across the county.The nine earmarked for disposal are in poor condition and rarely used, and the cutback will save the council £66,000, as agreed in this year’s budget in February.The council’s Executive heard that of the 54 council owned pavilions, 37 are currently leased to a range of community clubs and organisations.These are successfully managed and operated on a day to day basis and will be unaffected by any changes.However, earlier this year, community clubs, third sector organisations and other interested parties were invited to find out more about leasing the remaining 17 pavilions located across West Lothian, which would potentially close by 31 March 2024 if leases were not in place.

The usage figures for these pavilions was analysed and confirmed as being very low in many cases.While eight of those are considered viable for lease the remaining nine are in poor condition and unless sold to groups they will be demolished.Four of the nine earmarked for sale or demolition are in Broxburn.

They are at Holmes Park, Strathbrock Place, Station Road and Church Street.Others marketed for disposal or demolition are in Craigshill, Livingston; Kettlestoun Mains, Linlithgow Bridge; Greenrigg, Seafield and Harrison Hall in Whitburn.All have been marketed without interest and most are in poor condition with few facilities such as running water.Whitburn councillor Kirsteen Sullivan wondered if Harrison Hall could be marketed alongside the neighbouring former town library in Union Road.Scott Hughes from the council’s property and estates team said the local Community Development Trust had considered an application for both but this had not been
